Prof. William Oduro
Prof. William Oduro is a Professor and Lecturer of Wildlife Biology/Ecology and Management, former Dean of the International Programme Office (IPO), Office of the Vice Chancellor, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana.
Former Dean of the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources (FRNR), College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, KNUST, former Director of Institute of Renewable Natural Resources (IRNR), KNUST, and former Head of the Department of Wildlife and Range Management, IRNR, and FRNR. Prof. Oduro has spent his entire professional career in Wildlife Biology/Ecology and Management areas, focusing on education, research, and service.
His academic training consists of a B.Sc. degree in Wildlife and Range Management in 1984, a M.Sc. in Wildlife and Range Management, and a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology and Ecology in 1985 and 1990, respectively, from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and nine other professional certificates from nine countries: US, Canada, Brazil, Denmark, Sweden, Thailand, Malaysia, India, and South Africa. He has two international awards from the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C. (“Best Seminar Report” and “Best Project”
Wildlife Conservation and Management Training Course Malaysia/Thailand (18 July to 4 September 1994), and the Distinguished Professor of Service Award, KNUST, 27 Nov. 2015. In consultation with the Council of State, Ghana’s president appointed Prof. Oduro as a member of the governing body of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani (UENR), Ghana. He is also a council member of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Study (UCAES), Bunso, Eastern Region, Ghana.
Prof. Oduro has won and coordinated 23 externally funded projects. Beyond his teaching and research career, he has served in various capacities at the university, national, and international levels–numbering 38, 37, and 23, respectively.
Prof. Oduro has been a member of the International Leadership Foundation (ILF) since 2005 and a regular speaker at top management fora of international and local institutions/organizations, including higher education. He has facilitated leadership training for over 36,000 students, more than 100 senior offices of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, over 300 Ghana Educational Service teachers and senior officers, over 250 church ministers, and over 100 university management staff.
Prof. Oduro is also a regular speaker at the African Forum on Religion and Government in Ghana (AFReG) and a member of the Young Leaders League (Y2L) and the Leadership and Development Studies (LADS) Curriculum Task Force. Y2L/LADS is an initiative of ILF. He is a facilitator for the Executive Diploma in Leadership (EDL) program for Southern and Eastern Africa, a pilot by ALMA University College Ghana.
Prof. Oduro engages the academic community through presentations on Project Proposal Writing and Management, Research Methods, and Scientific Communication Skills. He won the African Role Model in Leadership’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition.
Prof. Oduro’s extensive professional experience and travel in 18 African countries and 20 other nations outside Africa give him a unique understanding of the global cultural context of capacity building. He moves freely within the cultures of these countries with knowledge of gender roles, language, and current leadership development issues.
