The situation in Africa today is a paradox that continues to draw very interesting evaluations and forecasts. On the one hand, the continent is endowed with many natural resources that give Africa the potential of being one of the wealthiest continents of the world. On the other hand, the inability to effectively translate these resources into wealth that will better the conditions of her people has left the continent the poorest region in the world.
There has been much debate about the root of Africa’s problems and the most effective way to transform the continent into a respectable, responsible member of the global community. A number of initiatives have sought to address the challenges facing Africa, but experience points to one critical need that lies at the root of Africa’s problems. That critical need is for people of integrity who have the professional skills to lead effectively. This is the reason ILF has as its mission the development of leaders of integrity who are able to spearhead spiritual, social and material transformation in Africa and the world.
Our vision is to help develop leaders whose public and professional lives are consistent with their private lives. Leaders of integrity are people who have such strong moral values that they are able to translate them into powerful principles that guide their leadership in the public sphere of life. Africa as a continent needs to work with a developmental framework that is holistic. Our vision is to work towards a future Africa which develops in a balanced way in the spiritual, social and material aspects of life.
ILF holds the view that Africa has much to contribute to the world – if she recovers and improves her values for her development. For example, the values of communality and holism are assets that can provide an exemplary paradigm for development. We want to see development striving toward technological and scientific advancement, ensuring that Africans themselves are growing into better human beings who live in harmony and peace with one another. ILF is therefore dedicated to discovering, developing and empowering transforming leaders who can usher Africa into a brighter future.
